Our Instructors

Join The Corner Gallery and Four First Names for our 8 week improv curriculum. Whether you are a beginner or a twenty year veteran this class is for you.

Beginners–At the end of the semester you will have an understanding of improv acting, increased confidence in creating and making choices and have the ability to play with authenticity, coherence and fun!

Advanced Short Form–Improvisers will enhance their skills learned in our beginner workshop with more advanced scene work.

Advanced Long Form-At the end of the semester you will be able to play with more advanced comedy technique and theory, consistently improvise scenes that resonate, delight and build no matter who you play with and more quickly develop, create and execute a variety of improv forms.

Everyone–Have a better sense of how teamwork can work for everyone!

There will be several performance opportunities in this program.

Course Begins September 4 and runs every first and third Wednesday of the month until December 18th. You can drop in to each class for $25 for no performance track. Class time: 6:30-9 PM. $200 for the full eight week program.

Laugh Tracks Week #1: Adaptability Arena

Improvisers will:

    • Recognize the importance of listening to crowd feedback and empathizing with other performers sharing the stage.
    • Adapt to performance needs of the set.
    • Demonstrate teachability by learning from moments that do not work in a show or scene.
Laughs Tracks Week #2: Specificity City
 
Improvisers will learn to:
    • Collaborate to build worlds with authentic details.
    • Demonstrate confidence in using specifics form their own experiences to enrich scenes.
Laugh Tracks Week #3: Emotion Commotion

 

Improvisers will:

    • Empathize with statements being said through displaying authentic emotional reactions.
    • Adapt to emotional shifts within a scene.

Improvisers will:
    • Listen to both verbal and non-verbal offers given in a scene.
    • Demonstrate confidence in their own offers by adapting to the scene partner’s response without abandoning their point of view.

Improvisers will:

    • Demonstrate confidence in starting scenes organically and intentionally.
    • Discover ways to listen and respond to offers that have no words
    • Collaborate in moments of tension or silence.
Laugh Tracks Week #6: Adaptability Curve (How to Take the Train to Crazy Town the Right Way)
 
Improvisers will:
    • Identify and adapt to tonal shifts in a scene by finding the rhythm of building a base reality with the unusual thing.
    • Demonstrate confidence leaning into unusual offers or embracing being low status for the sake of the scene.
